New to this!

I have not taught A level Law before and am looking at the OCR and AQA specs at the moment trying to decide which is the best one to go with. I will start teaching it sept 2012. Any comments or words of wisdom appreciated.

Re: New to this!

Hi

Having taught both at different times my overall conclusion is that the OCR syllabus is far more beneficial to the students. Each syllabus is reviewed at the end of each academic year. I look at the national results, own centre results, compare results with other centres, any materials etc etc., It may be more tricky initially to get to grips with the requirements of the OCR but the benefits of the syllabus far outweighs the AQA syllabus significantly. I have no doubt a number of people would disagree with me though. I wish you well with your choice. Jo

Thank you for that Jo, I am leaning towards OCR at the moment!

Hi Rowena. I do disagree with Jo and for me the AQA syllabus is the better option with emphasis in the first year on criminal and civil liability and the need to apply to scenarios. This is very interesting for the students and provides the skills they require for the second year.

Rowena - if you do elect to go the OCR route then let me know - can help with a variety of 'stuff'. Jo

Re: New to this!

Thank you both! I opted for AQA in the end so just waiting to see if enough students actually opt to do it in September for it to run. Really hope so :)
